TRANSIT/PARKING: Parking Payroll Deduction Authorization (PDF/Word)
Effective in January 2001, all salaried employees who park in Columbia University or New York Presbyterian Hospital lots are required to have their parking payments deducted directly from their paychecks. Monthly billing and payment by mail was discontinued as of January 2001.
All other people having parking privileges receive monthly bills from the parking offices.
This form must be completed by each employee and returned directly to the parking office which manages their parking space. (The amount filled in on the form should be the amount you presently pay for parking as indicated by your parking office.) Failure to authorize payroll deduction of your parking fees will result in loss of parking privileges.
Please note the following:
- All questions about parking deductions are handled by the local parking offices. Although commuter parking in a Columbia or NYPH lot is deducted on a pre-tax basis, it is no longer handled through the TPR/P system or through Open Enrollment, as it is automatically handled as part of the parking deduction program.
- All changes such as signing up for or dropping the parking portion of the Transit/Parking Reimbursement Program for parking in a Columbia/NYPH lot are processed through the local parking offices, NOT through Human Resources, as the system for Columbia/NYPH lots already incorporates pre- or after-tax deductions. (Human Resources continues to administer T/PRP for non-Columbia parking and for the transit portion of T/PRP.)
Changes must be consistent with the life status changes described in the T/PRP policy. All changes are effective on the first day of the subsequent calendar month. - Effective January 1, 2001, it is no longer necessary for eligible employees to submit claims for reimbursement to EBPA under the parking portion of the Transit/Parking Reimbursement Program for parking in a Columbia/NYPH lot. All payments are made on a pre-tax basis for employees who commute to the University by car and are eligible for pre-tax treatment.
- Parking charges are deducted from the paycheck on a current month basis, i.e. charges for January are deducted in January. For employees paid on a monthly basis, payment is deducted from the monthly salary check. For employees paid on a bi-weekly basis, payment is deducted from the second paycheck of the month.
NOTE: These new procedures apply ONLY to parking in Columbia or Presbyterian Hospital parking lots. If you participate in the transit portion of T/PRP or park in another parking lot, it is still necessary to enroll during Open Enrollment.
For further information about T/PRP, please contact Benefits, or read the T/PRP portion of your Benefits in Brief (see HR Documents for the latest version).
