Notes

*  Any unused portion of the Tuition Exemption Benefit will be verified to confirm eligibility.

  1. Columbia will withhold taxes on the value of the benefit considered to be part of the employee’s taxable income by the federal government:
    • The value above $5,250 per calendar year for graduate courses (or undergraduate courses that count toward a graduate degree) taken by the employee, except those that are job-related or taken as part of an undergraduate program—is considered taxable income;
    • The full value for graduate courses (or undergraduate courses that count toward a graduate degree) taken by spouses, dependents, or spouse’s dependents;
    • The full value for any classes, graduate or undergraduate, taken by same-sex domestic partners or their dependents.
  2. During the Summer Term, Barnard and Teachers College courses are not covered by tuition exemption for support staff.
  3. “Part-time” for TWU Local 241 employees is defined as a minimum 25-hour work week. All regular MEBA and MM&P employees are considered full-time.
