Training & Organizational Development
New 2008 Beginnings
I am pleased to announce that as of January 2008, our team has changed its name from Training & Organizational Development to Learning & Development.
Our new name reflects our key role in supporting the University’s mission to advance research and teaching, both in New York and globally. We experience learning in a variety of ways: in instructor-led classroom sessions, in online programs, during on-the-job skills practice, in coaching and mentoring, and in career development. The concept of learning extends beyond a training course—it is part of our daily work with colleagues in the University.
Fall 2007 Successes
I am also pleased to announce impressive results from our Fall 2007 program. Average registration was up 2.5 times compared to Spring 2007. Many courses were filled to capacity and had waiting lists. When we scheduled more classes to meet the demand, many of those were also filled to capacity.
Best of all, we had excellent feedback. Most of our participants said strongly that they expected to use their new skills and knowledge on the job.
Online Learning
To provide learning in a different mode, we formally launched our web-based library of courses through Skills @ Columbia. You can access these anytime, anywhere—all you need is your UNI and password. More than 1,000 online career development courses are available to all Faculty and Staff. You can pause these courses and come back later, so you can tailor your learning to a busy schedule.
Spring 2008 Courses
We invite you to attend any of our Spring 2008 offerings that suit your needs.
As a reminder, in Fall 2007 we moved to the state-of-the-art Studebaker Building in Manhattanville. Here’s our new address:
